You only need to register your information once and can return to this site to enter more brews or edit the brews you've entered. You can even pay your entry fees online if you wish.

If you are willing to judge or steward, please return to register on or after Monday 1 July, 2024 10:00, AEST.

Rules

D1. This website provides the ESB2024 Competition Guidelines and Rules to guide entrants in preparing and sending their entries. The Styles to be used are AABC 2022 and are available from the AABC website.

Exceptions are:

Extra Special Bitter - which will be judged using the BJCP 2008 8C Guidelines.

Australian Bitter Ale - VB, XXXX, West End Bitter etc.

Australian Pale (Pacific) Ale – think Stone and Wood Pacific Ale, Coopers Pacific Ale, etc., etc.

D2. Entries. No more than two entries are allowed from each entrant in any one Category. [ Categories are Traditional Top, Traditional Bottom and ‘New World’] Within this rule, no more than one entry is allowed in any one style.

D3. Amateur brews. The competition is restricted to amateur brews, that is to beers not subject to excise duty. This means any beer not fermented on licensed brewing premises is eligible, including beers made using extract kits, wort kits, or any other source of fresh wort. Brew-On-Premises beers are ineligible as these are subject to excise duty. Entries must be submitted under the brewer's own name.

D5. Containers. Each entry must consist of a single container of at least 500 mL and no more than 1000 mL in volume. Both glass and plastic bottles and aluminium cans are acceptable. Containers should not have any unique identifying features other than possibly a batch code on the bottle caps.  Containers will not be returned to entrants. [Note where the software standard text mentions bottle this means a container]

The entry fee shall be $8.00 per entry and must be paid beforehand via PayPal (who also charge a small fee)

All mailed entries must be received at the mailing location by the shipping deadline - please allow for shipping time. The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorised entries and mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.  

Entry Acceptance Rules

Number of Containers Required Per Entry: 1

The Categories are grouped as follows:

Traditional Top Fermentation: Best Bitter, ESB per 8C in the 2008 Guidelines, American Wheat, American Pale Ale and Oatmeal Stout

Traditional Bottom Fermentation:, Munich Helles, Vienna, German Pilsner, Schwarzbier, and Märzen.

‘New World’: Australian Bitter, Australian Pale (Pacific) Ale, New Zealand Pilsner, Pre-Prohibition Lager, American Light Lager
